Greetings!

I hope you all are having a great time travelling around the world. Let me take this opportunity to make you learn about India. Lots of foreign nationals like you, may know about the country and its history through the eyes of an foreign teacher who taught you little as part of your subject and just enough for you to score good marks in exams. I am sure lots of countries will not have India as part of their course studies and you might have resorted to internet to know about the topic of your interest relating to India. What little you know about India and its cities is just a tip of an iceberg. Here are few facts about India which every one should know. I am sure after reading these facts you will definitely would like to visit this great country called "India". So here you go..

1). Indian Railways is one among the highest employers in the world.
2). Sanskrit is considered as mother of all languages. It is so precise and therefore considered suitable for computer software.
3). India was among the richest country before British rule. Before foreign invasion India was commonly known as "Soney Ki Chidiya" which means "Golden Bird".
4). During the early 17th Century. Christopher Columbus was attracted by India’s wealth and was looking for a route to India when he discovered America by mistake. India has fed the greed of almost every powerful nation or ruler (that/who looked upon it, during those times) and is poised to be at the top of the world in all aspects.
5). India is the largest democracy in the world.
6). India is 7th largest country in the world.
7). India is one of the most ancient and living civilization.
8). As per the reports from IMF 2017. India GDP has surpassed countries like France, Italy or Canada etc. By scoring 6 position in highest GDP.
9). India has maximum number of post offices in the world.
10). India has largest number of TV news channels in the world. i.e. close to 800 TV News channels.
11). India has largest number of newspaper publications i.e. more than 100000 registered publications are there in India.
12). India has never invaded any country in last 1000 years and more of history.
13). India is the origin of 4 major religions i.e. Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism and Buddhism.
14). There are more Muslims than most of the Islamic countries in India who lives peacefully here.
15). Varanasi, known as Banaras, was called “the ancient city” when Lord Buddha visited it in 500 B.C.E, and is the oldest, continuously inhabited city in the world today.
16). India has second largest pool of scientists and engineers in the world.
17). India is the second largest English speaking country in the world.
18). World largest electronic ID program "Aadhar" is underway in India.
19). Bollywood with about 1000 films every year is the largest center of film production in the world.
20). The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act or MNREGA, an Indian job guarantee scheme, enacted by legislation on August 25, 2005 and now extended by the current government is the largest ever – public employment program visualized in human history.
21). The Mid-day Meal Scheme of the Indian government is the popular name for school meal program in India, is the largest school lunch program in the world, covering 12 million children.
22). Board of Control for Cricket in India, or BCCI, is the apex governing body for cricket in India is the richest body in world cricket.
23). India is the second largest producer of small cars in the world.
24). India is the second largest populated country in the world with citizens consisting nearly from all religions and ethnic backgrounds.
25). There are 22 major official languages in India, written in 13 different scripts with over 720 dialects.
26). Until 1896, India was the only source for diamonds to the world.
27). The World’s first university was established in Takshila in 700 BC. More than 10,500 students from all over the world studied more than 60 subjects.
28). Indian space agency currently holds world record of launching 104 satellites on a single rocket successfully. All 104 satellites were places in the orbit as planned.
29). ISRO project of Mangalyan i.e. Mars-vehicle is the most successful, cheapest and first attempt success mission to Mars. Total cost of the mission was less than average hollywood movie cost.
30). India contributes the largest number of troops for UN Peacekeeping Missions.
31). The human gathering of Kumbh Mela of 2011 was so huge that it was visible from space.
32). The Golden Temple provides food to over one lakh people everyday.
33). India has more mosques than any other nation than the world.
34). India has the largest written constitution in the world.
35). Rabindranath Tagore is the only poet whose poetry was taken as National Anthem of two different countries.
36). Indian or people with strong relation with India won Nobel prize are Rabindranath Tagore (Literature), CV Raman (Physics), Mother Teresa (Peace), Amartya Sen (Econimics), Kailash Satyarthi (Peace), Har Govind Khurana (Physiology or Medicine), Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar (Physics), Venkatraman Ramakrishnan (Chemistry), Ronald Ross (Physiology or Medicine), Rudyard Kipling (Literature), Dalai Lama (Peace), V. S. Naipaul (Literature).
37). Global companies headed by Indian CEOs are Microsoft, Google, Adobe, Global Foundries, Softbank Internet and Media Inc., Cognizant, Harman International, Sandisk Corporation, Nokia, NetApp, PepsiCo, Mastercard, Reliance Industries Ltd, Wipro, Bharti Interprises, Dr. Reddy's laboratories, Diageo, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, ArcelorMittal and the list goes on.
38). India is a federal constitutional republic governed under a parliamentary system consisting of 29 states and 7 union territories.
39). 2014 general elections in India was reported as world's largest and most vibrant election in the world.
40). Indians used astronomy to study space and directions way before any other country. Finding of sages of those times still holds to be true.
41). The history of metallurgy in the Indian subcontinent began prior to the 3rd millennium BCE.
42). India was an island more than 100 million years ago.
43). India has the largest tiger population in the world.
44). Mahabharatha is the longest epic poem in the world.
45). The Vedas are a collection of hymns and other ancient religious texts written in India between about 1500 and 1000 BCE. However, the verses are known as "Shruti" which means by "Hearing". So it is believed to be way older than humans started using scripts to write.



I can go on and on. However, the idea of this article is to let you know about India in brief so that when you visit this country you can feel the vastness and greatness of this country. India was looted, plundered and ruled by foreign invaders for more than 1000 years, but it still stands strong as largest democracy in the world. India's tolerance is the beacon of peace for all humanity. Many tried to destroy the history of India, but whoever stayed longer became more Indian maintaining their individual identity in regards to religion and ethnic background. The evidence are clearly visible as Portuguese culture in Goa, French colony in Pondicherry, Jews colonies in Mumbai, most number of mosques, second largest English speaking country etc.

Due to its Geographical location, India sees four major seasons "Summer, Autumn, Rainy & Winters". You can choose your favorite destination with lots of options between beaches, mountains, hills, urban cities, rural villages, forests, lakes, rivers, deserts, religious centers, monuments, nightlife, wellness centers etc. I welcome you to India and have a great time here.
